Chapter and summary

Automatic source captions (verbatim recording; may contain recognition errors)

0:00 Trace a floor plan

Import a plan image and inspect its editable reconstruction.

In this video, I'm going to show you how we can digitize floor plans with AI without having to trace over them manually, how we can turn a floor plan into a realistic real-scale render in 9.8 seconds, and how we can generate floor plans that are fully editable and make sense functionally very quickly inside synapse.app. So, right here I'm inside synapse and I'm going to go ahead and show you exactly how we can trace floor plans without having to go through them manually. So, I will just drag and drop this image right onto the canvas and you will see it will automatically zoom in and it will say floor plan detected. Do you want to trace it into editable walls or just keep it as an image? And in this case, we'll click trace floor plan. It will detect the floor plan and if there are multiple floor plans, it will actually detect the floor plan separately and then we can just click trace floor plan. And in a few seconds, this will load up completely and we'll have a fully editable floor plan with walls, windows, doors, [music] hatches for the flooring, and also assets which are placed. So, as you can see now, we have the doors, the windows, and the assets which are being placed one by one here. Now that the tracing is done, you can see that obviously there are a few things that we can do better like for example, uh these walls right here need to be thicker, uh but that's pretty easy to fix because we can just select the walls and then we can say use the same properties as these other walls right here. And that is completely fixed now. Uh same with this one as well. And you can see that we have this completely traced and fully editable without having to go through anything manually. Now, this is very good for renovations where you already have an existing floor plans and honestly most projects actually start with an existing floor plan. So, this already saves a bunch of hours to architects every single week that they have a project like this coming in. Now, obviously this needs just a little bit of modification in terms of the asset placement um and maybe even in terms of moving some walls or anything like that, but overall, I mean you can see the 90% of the work is already done here. And I'm going to show you that um Synapse is actually very capable of drafting as well any kind of professional work or even professional documentation, drawing sets, or building permits, or anything like that. Because if I actually go ahead and select the walls right here, I am going to show you how we can do multiple layers. So, you see how we can add a layer to the left and then we can

2:17 Build wall layers

Configure construction layers, hatches and thicknesses.

add even more. So, now we have three different layers and we can edit all of these separately or even move them around. So, for example, in this one, I can do 0.0 um actually 0.15 for the installation. And then for example, for the bricks and for example, for the bricks or the blocks on the outside, we can do let's say um 0.17. And then right here, we can go to the fill. We can go to the hatches. As you can see, there's a large library of hatches. I'm going to scroll downwards and choose the insulation hatch right here. I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to choose the stroke to be a uh gray stroke and lower down the scale to one. If I go out of here, you can see that that has already been placed. And now I'm going to go ahead also add another hatch of bricks or blocks or anything like that. So, I'm going to lower the scale here as well and let's rotate it for 90°. Let's make the stroke a bit softer. And now we have that added as well. And then even in the core, if you want to just add even more detail, we can go ahead and choose the concrete here, right? So, now we have multiple layers here with the wall. And what we can easily do actually is that we can go here and search for uh all of the walls. We can select all of them. So, then we can basically just select all of the exterior walls and we can easily apply the style of the multi-layer wall that we set up earlier right on the bedroom. So, as soon as I select all of these, I'm going to go ahead and click the eyedropper tool and with one click, the same property as this wall will be applied just as I'm doing here. Now, you

3:49 Configure openings

Adjust window divisions and opening types.

can see that depending on the orientation of the wall, these might need to be hidden in terms of where those are aligned, but it's pretty easy to do that. You can see we can just drag and drop this right here to change the actual alignment. And then on this wall as well, and these are going to connect perfectly fine. Now, also if we go right here on the asset library, Synapse offers a large variety of whatever kind of pieces of furniture, of accessories, or anything else that you need. And the cool part about this is that later on when I show you the 3D renders, all of these are going to be detected by the camera tool as well. Now, the other cool configuration when it comes to drafting and actual professional drawings is that if we go ahead and select the window right here, we can configurate the window further. So, we can click plus to add another leaf of the window. We can also add another transom. And then all of these different leaves of the window, we can modify and configurate with one click, and also change the mechanism. We can also change the construction type. We can make it with a frame. We can change the frame thickness, too. So, if I just type in 50, then this leaf will have a wider and thicker frame than the other one. And then the cool part about all of this is that if I do go ahead and click apply, I will very easily be able to just go in the camera mode. I'll click once and another time in the preview, it will show exactly what we configurated. After that is done, you can see how quickly we can take just a trace floor plan and apply multiple layers and basically go ahead and detail the drafting even

5:21 Generate within a boundary

Write a brief, generate layouts and review the results.

further. Now, the cool part that I'm going to show you is that if we just have a simple boundary and a simple prompt and a simple brief that a client has sent to you, we can turn it into a fully editable floor plan in a few seconds. So, I'm going to go ahead and draw a boundary with a polyline. And in fact, I'm not going to make it super regular anyway, because this works with any kind of shapes, even shapes which are very hard to actually deal with when it comes to doing design and drafting and function. Um and then you can see that right here on the right it says that the area of the boundary is about 120 square meters. One thing to actually have in mind is that the prompt and the area in which the boundary is have to make sense and be proportional because you cannot ask for like a three-bedroom apartment in a 60 square meter boundary. Uh but I will go ahead and click the floor plan generator. I will click to with boundary. I will have a boundary selected and I will type in three-bedroom apartment. I will click send. And in a few seconds we should have a fully functional floor plan which has been generated for us. It's editable and fully customizable on the Synapse canvas. So now you can see the floor plan is being laid out completely. And I mean it does make sense functionally as well. We have a kitchen here. We have the living space. We do have dining space. And then we have the three bedrooms. We even actually have a master bedroom with a bath and also a um small wardrobe. Uh it did not follow the boundary perfectly in this side [music] but we can pretty easily just tweak that after it's been generated. And obviously maybe some assets do need tweaking in terms of the placement. But overall it's actually quite good. And if it does make this good of a job in a a not so regular shape, I mean we can [music] just quite easily do a rectangle which is let's say 11 by 9.3 meters. >> [music] >> And then we can just go ahead and type in here add the floor plan generation with boundary two-bedroom apartment. And this is going to be a piece of cake for Synapse basically to generate this floor plan and make it fully editable. So you can see that the floor plan now for the two-bedroom apartment has been generated. Obviously some orientation of the furniture will have to be fixed like these beds [music] and other small stuff. Um like even this door is super easily fixed so like we can orient it

7:40 Create a camera render

Set the viewpoint and turn the plan into an interior image.

towards this side or this other side as well. and we can do all of those tweaks and edits. But, the cool part that I'm going to show you now is that we can go to polish mode. And this is where we are able to create visualizations, renders, even architectural illustrations. But, we're going to get started with the camera mode because I want to click once on the starting point and another time on the angle which I want to capture. I can move the camera a bit further back. Um and then let's just make the lens a bit wider and then I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to type in uh let's go for mid-century modern and I can say um realistic or photorealistic render of this living room and a high-rise apartment, Chicago. And I can just click apply. And in about 9.8 seconds, we'll have a realistic render coming out of this floor plan, real scale, not just actually generic renders that we see out there being created right onto our canvas. And the cool part is that we have so much flexibility with a few features that Synapse has that I'm going to show you in just a second. And by the way, if you want actually join Synapse and get 1,000 free credits to play around with this, you can go ahead and click the first link below. So, now you can see that this is fully real scale based on what the camera has captured with the window height, with the walls, and everything else. And this is actually a pretty cool render. But, where it gets even cooler is that we can edit this further with a prompt and remove background, boost resolution, etc. etc. But, we can also do

9:11 Edit the image

Segment objects and explore changes to the rendered scene.

segmentation. With one click, we're going to be able to edit separately [music] all of the different elements inside this image. [music] And now that this is segmented, you can see that we can it identifies the sofa, the coffee table, the rug, the balcony chair, which is actually [music] an armchair, uh the sideboard, the painting. But, if you click on it, you can see we can change paint this. We can actually replace this element or change art with something. and we can change the flooring, we can change bookshelf. If we click on lamp, we can actually turn it on or off. If we click on wall, we can just add or change a wallpaper. So, I mean, I'm just going to choose a random one. We can also choose our own one. But, let's just choose this one even if it looks ugly for now. Um this is just to showcase what can actually be created here, which I'm absolutely stunned and crazy about because 5 years ago when I started creating renders, if you told me that this would have been possible, I would have lost my mind. And I think you should definitely lose your mind if you spent hours and hours of endless work on a manual rendering that was used to be done a long time ago. But, you can see this automatically actually applied the wallpaper, which does not look beautiful, but you can imagine that if we have something with better design intent, how much better it will actually look. If you actually think this would be useful for you, you can go ahead and try Synapse. In the first link below, you will get 1,000 AI credits for absolutely free to try out. And if you want to see more of me using Synapse, you can go ahead and watch the video right here.
