# Tips and tricks

Choose useful drawing habits and jump to the canonical instructions for precision, organisation and AI workflows.

Use these habits to draw precisely, organise content and make focused revisions.

## Find tools by name

Open command search with **Cmd/Ctrl+K** to find a tool by name. Use [Shortcuts and gestures](/reference/shortcuts-and-gestures.md) for frequent operations.

## Enter dimensions instead of nudging by eye

Use the active tool's numeric fields when you know the required length, angle or size. [Draw to exact lengths and angles](/drafting/draw-to-exact-lengths-and-angles.md) explains the fields, and [Snapping and precision](/drafting/snapping-and-precision.md) explains relationships with existing geometry.

After importing or tracing, compare a known dimension. Changing the display unit is not the same as calibrating a drawing.

## Choose groups or blocks deliberately

Use a [group](/drafting/group-shapes.md) when several shapes need to move together. Use a [block](/drafting/reuse-an-element-with-blocks.md) when repeated instances should share reusable content.

Edit shared block content to update its copies. Move an instance to change only that copy's placement.

## Organise before exporting

Use [Layers](/drafting/the-layers-panel.md) to find, name, hide and lock drawing content. Use a [paper](/drafting/papers.md) for a composed drawing sheet.

Images can be exported directly without a paper. [Export your drawing](/import-and-export/export-your-drawing.md) distinguishes sheet export from selected-image output.

## Make AI revisions focused

Choose the input that controls the mismatch: a boundary for a plan's footprint, the camera for a viewpoint, or a detected region for a local image change.
