# Opacity

Opacity is how see-through a shape's fill or stroke is, from fully transparent to fully opaque.

## Set opacity

1. Select the shape and open its **Appearance** controls.
2. Open the **Fill** or the **Stroke** swatch — each has its own opacity.
3. Set the opacity as a percentage, from **0% (fully transparent)** to **100% (fully opaque)**.

The default is **100%**.

## What you'll see

The selected shape's fill or stroke becomes more or less see-through. Fill and stroke each have their own opacity, so you can fade one without the other.
