# Draw to exact lengths and angles

Use the displayed drawing unit for exact dimensions, and confirm each tool's inputs without ending a run too early.

Start the tool and place its first point, then enter the dimensions in its active controls. A value you type takes priority over the pointer.

## Check the unit first

Lengths use the displayed drawing unit; angles use degrees. A 4 m line is **4** when the field uses m, **400** in cm, or **4000** in mm. Enter the number for the unit shown.

## Choose your tool

| Tool and current step | Fields | What Enter does |
| ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------ | ----------------------------------------- |
| [Line](/drafting/draw-a-line.md), placing the endpoint | **L** length, **A** angle; set one or both | Places the endpoint and finishes the line |
| [Polyline](/drafting/draw-a-polyline.md), adding a point | **L**, **A**; set one or both | Places that point and continues the run |
| [Wall](/drafting/draw-a-wall.md), adding a segment | **L**, **A**; set one or both | Places that point and continues the wall |
| [Rectangle](/drafting/draw-a-rectangle.md), placing the opposite corner | **W**, **H**; fill both | Places the rectangle |
| [Circle](/drafting/draw-a-circle-or-arc.md#draw-a-circle), after setting the centre | **Radius** | Places the circle |
| [Arc](/drafting/draw-a-circle-or-arc.md#draw-an-arc), placing the chord endpoint | **L**, **A** | Sets the chord and advances to curvature |
| Arc, setting curvature | **R** radius | Places the arc |

For a line, polyline segment or wall segment, a length without an angle follows the direction of the pointer. An angle without a length keeps the pointer's distance. Set both when both must be exact.

## Try a length and angle

1. Press **L** for Line and click the start point.
2. Enter a 4 m length using the displayed unit.
3. Set **A** to **30°**.
4. Press **Enter** to finish the line.

The result is one 4 m line at the specified angle. Use [Measure](/drafting/measure-distance-and-area.md) to check a distance.

Enter a line's length and angle, then confirm the inputs.

## Finish a polyline or wall

**Enter in a filled input places the next point.** The drawing run continues so you can add another segment.

To finish the whole run, leave the numeric fields empty and press **Enter** on the canvas. To close a loop, click its start point instead.

## If Enter seems to do nothing

* **Rectangle:** enter both the width (**W**) and height (**H**), then press **Enter**.
* **Length or radius:** enter a valid number greater than zero in the displayed unit.
* **Arc:** confirming the chord moves to the curvature step. Enter **R** for the radius and press **Enter**, or click to set the bend.
