# Draw a wall

Draw continuous, multi-segment walls that join at the corners, then set their thickness and build them up in layers.

**Shortcut:** W

## Steps

1. Press **W**, or choose **Wall** in the toolbar.
2. Click to place the wall's first point.
3. Move the pointer and click to add each next point. Walls chain from one segment into the next, with a live length and angle readout as you go.
4. Press **Enter** to finish. To close a loop, click back on your first point.

## Draw to an exact length or angle

1. Place the first point, then enter **L** (length), **A** (angle in degrees), or both in the tool panel. Use the displayed unit for length. A field left unset follows the pointer.
2. Press **Enter** in the input to place the next point. The run stays active.
3. Repeat for another segment.

To finish the run, leave the fields empty and press **Enter** on the canvas. To close a loop, click its start point.

For a 4 m segment at 0°, enter **L = 4** when the displayed unit is m (or **4000** in mm) and **A = 0°**.

## Walls snap and join on their own

As you draw, walls snap to the ends, midpoints, and intersections of existing geometry, and to perpendicular points. A wall latches onto an existing wall — at its end, or along its edge to form a T-junction. Walls that meet at a shared corner join automatically, so corners stay clean.

## Set thickness and alignment

Select a wall to open its properties. Set its **thickness**, and choose how it sits on the line you drew with the alignment control — **Left**, **Center**, or **Right** (Center by default).

## Correct an existing wall

Press **V** and select the wall. Use its construction properties to change thickness or alignment. To reposition it, follow [Move a shape or wall](/drafting/select-move-and-duplicate-shapes.md#move-a-shape-or-wall).

After a change, inspect its junctions, hosted doors and windows, and room boundaries. Check nearby dimensions separately; annotations do not follow moved geometry automatically.

## Build a multilayer wall

1. Select one wall to show its construction controls.
2. Click **Add left** or **Add right** to add a construction layer on that side.
3. Click a layer row to edit its thickness, fill and stroke.
4. Drag a layer by its handle to change the order, then check the wall's total thickness and junctions.

A wall can have up to **eight** layers. At that limit the add buttons are disabled. The core layer cannot be removed. Divider walls do not show construction-layer controls.

## Cancel a wall

Press **Esc** while drawing to discard the wall in progress. Nothing is added to your drawing.

## Properties

Walls are styled **per construction layer** — each layer has its own fill, stroke, and thickness, set from the wall's layer list rather than the shared Appearance panel. For what the underlying controls do:
