# Draw a rectangle

Click one corner, then click the opposite corner to draw a rectangle, or type its exact width and height.

**Shortcut:** R

## Steps

1. Press **R**, or choose **Rectangle** in the toolbar.
2. Click once to set the first corner.
3. Move the pointer. The rectangle previews live, growing toward wherever the pointer is, so the first click can be any corner.
4. Click again to set the opposite corner. The rectangle is finished as soon as you place the second corner.

## Draw to exact dimensions

After placing the first corner:

1. Enter the width in **W** and the height in **H**, in the unit shown.
2. Fill **both** fields with values greater than zero.
3. Press **Enter** to place the rectangle.

The clips below demonstrate the fields separately. To complete a rectangle with **Enter**, fill both.

**Example:** for a 4 m × 3 m rectangle, enter **W = 4**, **H = 3** when the displayed unit is m, or **W = 4000**, **H = 3000** in mm. Fill both, then press **Enter**.

## What you'll see

A rectangle between the two corners you set, drawn in your current line style. The finished rectangle appears selected, so you can move or restyle it straight away.

## Keep corners snapped

As you draw a rectangle, both corners snap to nearby points: the first corner sets the origin, and the opposite corner snaps relative to it. Press **F3** to turn snapping off or back on.

## Cancel a rectangle

Press **Esc** while drawing a rectangle to discard it in progress. Nothing is added to your drawing.
