# Add stairs

Place rectangular or spiral stairs, then adjust their dimensions, tread and riser bounds, and handrails.

Choose **Rectangular Staircase** to trace a run or **Spiral Staircase** to place a stair around a centre point.

## Add a rectangular staircase

1. Find **Rectangular Staircase** in command search with **Cmd/Ctrl+K**, or choose it from the available toolbar tools.
2. Click to set the start of the run.
3. Click along the intended path to extend the run.
4. Extend the final segment until the preview stops lengthening, then click. The staircase completes at the maximum run allowed by its height, tread and riser settings.

If **Enter** leaves the stair in preview, move the endpoint farther along the run until it reaches that limit, then click. **Enter** only completes a run whose placed endpoint has already reached the limit.

## Add a spiral staircase

1. Find **Spiral Staircase** in command search or the toolbar.
2. Move the pointer to position its preview.
3. Click to place the staircase at its centre.

## What you'll see

A stair symbol appears in the drawing. Inspect its run, direction and relationship to the surrounding space before using it in a plan.

## Set dimensions and steps

Select the staircase to inspect its controls. Rectangular stairs expose width, height, tread and riser minimum/maximum values, and handrail options. Spiral stairs also have radius and direction controls.

The height and tread/riser bounds determine how many steps fit along the run. Check those values against your project's stair requirements.

## Export and review

Staircase drawing content can be included in PDF and DXF output. Inspect the exported symbol and annotations before delivery.
