# Add a door or window

Place a door or window on a wall, choose its direction, and adjust the opening's properties.

Choose **Door** or **Window**, click a wall to set the position, then choose the direction and click again to place the opening.

**Before you start:** draw the wall that will host the opening. [Add a door](#add-a-door) or [add a window](#add-a-window), then inspect its size.

## Add a door

1. Find **Door** in the toolbar or command search with **Cmd/Ctrl+K**.
2. Click the intended wall to set the position.
3. Move the pointer to choose the door's direction and inspect the preview.
4. Click again to place the door.

## Add a window

1. Find **Window** in the toolbar or command search.
2. Click the intended wall to set the position.
3. Move the pointer to choose the direction and inspect the preview.
4. Click again to place the window.

After placement, follow [Correct an opening](#correct-an-opening) to set its dimensions and sill height.

## What you'll see

The opening is hosted in the wall and its symbol appears at the chosen position. Inspect the wall cut and the symbol before continuing, especially near wall ends or junctions.

## Correct an opening

1. Press **V** and select the door or window.
2. In its **Geometry** controls, set **Width** and **Height**. For a window, also check **Sill**. Use the units shown beside the fields.
3. Use **Configuration** to adjust the opening's construction. **Alignment** positions a frame that is shallower than its host wall. It is disabled when the frame fills or exceeds the wall depth.
4. Inspect the opening symbol and wall cut, especially near wall ends or junctions.

If you placed the wrong opening or direction, press **Cmd/Ctrl+Z** and place it again while checking the preview.

## Cancel placement

Press **Esc** before the opening is placed to cancel placement.
