# Turn a brief into an editable plan

Develop a written space brief into an editable plan, then check and refine the result.

Write a focused brief, generate a plan, then inspect and refine its editable geometry before taking the design further.

## Before you start

Open a project you can edit. Have your room requirements and any fixed boundary ready. Check [AI credits](/workspace-and-billing/understand-ai-credits.md) before generating.

## Steps

### Write the brief

Write a short brief covering the type of space, required rooms and the most important relationships. For example, ask for bedrooms separated from the entrance and a kitchen connected to the living area.

### Prepare the footprint

If the footprint is fixed, draw a closed rectangle or polyline larger than 20 m² before generating.

### Generate the plan

Follow [Generate a floor plan](/ai-and-automation/generate-a-floor-plan.md), selecting the existing outline with **Pick a boundary shape** if needed.

### Review the layout

Compare the result with the brief. Check circulation, room arrangement, openings and the footprint before spending time on finishes.

### Develop the drawing

Use [Measure](/drafting/measure-distance-and-area.md) to check room sizes. [Move content](/drafting/select-move-and-duplicate-shapes.md) or correct a [wall](/drafting/draw-a-wall.md#correct-an-existing-wall) or [opening](/drafting/add-a-door-or-window.md#correct-an-opening). Inspect junctions and dimensions after each change.

## What you'll see

The generated plan remains an editable drawing. You can develop recognised walls, rooms and openings, and adjust furnishings where they were placed.

## Decide what to do next

**The layout is broadly right.** Refine the drawing directly, add the required information and prepare a deliverable.

**The layout misses a major requirement.** Revise the brief or boundary before another submission. Name the missing requirement in the revised brief and check the cost before generating again.

**You want to explore the interior appearance.** Prepare the drawing and assets, then [create a camera render](/ai-and-automation/create-an-interior-render.md). Rendering produces an image, not another editable plan.
