# Replace an object from a reference

Replace a detected object in an image using a reference image of the alternative.

Select an object with **Segment**, then choose **Replace Element** and supply an image of the alternative you want to explore.

## Before you start

Prepare a clear reference image, such as a JPG or PNG showing the alternative object. This task changes the object's appearance in an image; it does not swap the furniture asset in the editable floor plan.

Keep a separate original for comparison; the result replaces the existing image.

## Steps

1. Select the image, click **Segment**, and wait for detection.
2. Click the object to replace and check its highlighted region.
3. Choose **Replace Element**, if offered for that selection.
4. Upload or drop the reference image into the popup.
5. Inspect the reference preview, then click **Replace element**.

## What you'll see

An edited version of the same image shows an interpretation of the reference object in the selected area. Inspect its size, perspective, contact with the floor and relationship to nearby objects.

## Example

To explore a different chair in an interior image, select the detected chair, provide an image of the alternative and run **Replace Element**. Compare the composition with your original, then make any corresponding furniture changes separately in the editable drawing.

## Controls and limits

If you only want a different finish on the same object, **Change Material** is the more focused action.

## Troubleshooting

**The highlight no longer fits.** Use **Re-segment** to detect the replacement before making another local edit.

**Replacement is unavailable.** Check the detected category. A floor or paintable surface may offer finish-specific actions instead.

**The alternative is not recognisable.** Try a clearer reference showing the intended object, or revise the source image. Inspect the cost before another attempt.
