# Expand an image

Extend an image beyond its edges by choosing new bounds and generating the surrounding content.

Select an image, choose **Expand**, and set the area you want the image to fill.

## When to use it

Expand an image when a composition needs more space around its subject or a different aspect ratio. Expansion generates content around the original edges.

The expanded result replaces the original image. Keep a separate original if you need both compositions.

## Steps

1. Press **V** for **Select** and select one image.
2. Click **Expand** in the image actions.
3. Adjust the surrounding bounds to include the extra space you want.
4. Choose an aspect-ratio preset if needed, then inspect the bounds again.
5. Click **Expand** to generate the surrounding content.

## What you'll see

The image is replaced by an expanded result occupying the bounds you chose. Inspect the join between the original content and the generated surroundings, especially straight architectural edges, repeated patterns and objects cut by the original border.

The expanded result is aligned with the canvas rather than retaining a rotated image's angle. Check its placement if the source was rotated.

## Controls and limits

| Control                                | Use                                        |
| -------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------ |
| **Custom**                             | Adjust the bounds for your composition.    |
| **Original**                           | Use the source image's aspect ratio.       |
| **Square**, **16:9**, **4:3**, **3:2** | Choose a preset proportion.                |
| **Fit frame to image**                 | Reset the bounds to the existing image.    |
| **Expand**                             | Run the expansion using the chosen bounds. |

Choose the composition using bounds and aspect-ratio presets. There is no text prompt or output-pixel-size field.

## Example

To give an interior image more horizontal breathing room, choose **16:9**, adjust the bounds around the existing image, then run **Expand**. Review any newly generated wall, floor and furniture details before including the result in a presentation.

## Troubleshooting

**There is no extra area to fill.** Enlarge the bounds beyond the source. **Fit frame to image** resets them; it does not add space.

**The extension is not convincing.** Undo if needed, choose a more restrained expansion, and try again. Check the credit requirement before another submission.
