# Edit an image with a prompt

Describe a change to a selected image and replace it with an AI-edited result.

Select an image, choose **Edit with prompt**, and describe the change you want to make to the whole picture.

## When to use it

Use whole-image prompt editing for a broader change, such as a different atmosphere, finish palette or visual treatment. To target a detected object or surface, start with [segmentation](/ai-and-automation/select-image-objects-with-segmentation.md) instead.

This replaces the selected image. Keep a separate original for comparison. The editable drawing and placed assets remain unchanged.

## Steps

1. Press **V** for **Select**, then select one image on the canvas.
2. Click **Edit with prompt** in the image actions.
3. Write an instruction describing the change and any parts you want retained.
4. Submit the prompt and wait while **Applying your edit...** is shown.

## What you'll see

The edited image appears in the same canvas area. Compare the whole picture with your original, including the surrounding content.

## Example

> Give this interior a warmer finish palette with pale oak and off-white walls. Retain the room layout, furniture positions and camera viewpoint.

## Edit a selected area

This selection workflow is separate from [Isolate](/ai-and-automation/erase-or-isolate-an-object.md), which creates a cutout and reconstructs the background.

## Controls and limits

* Enter a prompt before submitting.
* **Cancel** stops the local waiting flow. **Undo** can restore the previous image. Neither guarantees a credit refund; see [AI credits](/workspace-and-billing/understand-ai-credits.md#cancellation-and-undo).

## Troubleshooting

**The image actions are missing.** Activate **Select** and select one image, rather than a group or several items.

**The edit changed too much.** Undo the edit if needed, narrow the instruction, or use segmentation to select the intended content. Check the cost before another submission.

**The operation fails.** Read the message, confirm the image has loaded, and resolve any stated access or credit requirement before retrying.
