# Change flooring in an image

Use a reference image to explore a different finish on a detected floor.

Select a detected floor with **Segment**, then choose **Change Flooring** and supply a reference image.

## Before you start

Prepare a clear JPG or PNG reference of the wood, tile or stone finish. Keep a separate original for comparison; this edit updates the image and leaves the drawing unchanged.

Choosing a built-in sample, where offered, starts the edit immediately and can use AI credits. Upload your own reference if you want to inspect its preview before pressing Apply.

## Steps

1. Select one interior image and click **Segment**.
2. Wait for detection, then click the floor region you want to change.
3. Click **Change Flooring**.
4. Upload or drop your reference image into the popup and inspect its preview.
5. Click **Apply flooring** and wait for the result.

## What you'll see

The floor's appearance changes in the existing image. Inspect the finish around furniture, the direction of planks or tiles, and transitions to other surfaces.

## Troubleshooting

**Change Flooring is absent.** Inspect the detected region. A carpet and a floor are different categories: a detected carpet may offer **Change Pattern** instead.

**The floor boundary is wrong.** Try a clearer source or use [Edit with prompt](/ai-and-automation/edit-an-image-with-a-prompt.md) if the intended floor is not detected.

**The detection no longer fits the edited image.** Use **Re-segment**, then choose the floor again.
